The Wedding of
Vicki + Dan
13 September 2015
We were first introduced to Vicki and Dan at one of the earliest weddings we filmed, a few years ago. Our old neighbour and good friend Kirsty Gearing was the bridesmaid of today’s special occasion and we were the surprise!
Slightly further away than our average wedding in the beautiful countryside of Devon we began our travels on the Friday evening. Along the journey we saw increasing amounts of campers, caravans, trailer tents and holiday makers, perhaps this rise in population was the reason behind our inability to find a hotel with a spare room! Nevertheless, we ended up in seaside town, Torquay. The trip was exciting and who doesn’t love a fancy little hotel.
The morning had arrived and we made our way back towards Dartmoor for Vicki and Dan’s big day. Rescheduled a year later after the arrival of their gorgeous little girl Isabella this day had been a long time coming and we were looking forward to getting started.
We had the benefit of being at just one location today, the fantastic venue of Little Bidlake Farm, Devon. Just on the outskirts of Dartmoor the venue offers onsite accommodation, perfect for guests who’ve had a few too many bubbles. The venue also allows for guests to camp onsite and sure enough, in the distance stood the tents of guests who were really up for going that extra mile. We solute those who braved the English weather that evening!
We began filming the bridal preparations in one of the cottages and Vicki was certainly on the ball with the organisation of the wedding. From a collage of memory photographs along the aisle to the acoustic set for her entrance into the ceremony, she was on it! The biggest thing I noticed about today was the support from friends and family who all came together to ensure this couple had the best possible day.
As the ceremony was drawing closer the clouds were appearing heavier. Much to our annoyance the heavens opened and we had one almighty downpour. Nevertheless, this outside wedding was going to happen and the dedication from Vicki and Dan was colossal enough to make it stop just in time. The ceremony was slightly different today in that guests could stand around the pergola throughout, rather than the seated formality; many guests had children and it gave the atmosphere a more relaxed vibe.
The second the guests caught eye of Vicki an enormous cheers was made and everyone was blown away. Accompanied by her father she looked amazing in her stunning white dress. A moment I’m sure that Dan will forever treasure.
The ceremony was lovely and there were some great readings from both Vicki and Dan’s friends. With the biggest formality complete and our newly wedded couple official, it was time for a mooch around the venue. Luckily the weather remained dry for the rest of the day and it was a really pleasant atmosphere whilst guests mingled, chatted and enjoyed one another’s company. Soon, everyone was seated for the wedding breakfast and a delicious hog roast was served. It certainly was rather scrumptious and the dessert was even better. Bridesmaid Kirsty and I definitely visited that table more than once ;)
It was nearly time for the speeches and everyone seemed really at ease about the prospect. A few toasts later, many bottles emptied and a few tears dried the speeches were complete and didn’t they do a great job. It’s never easy speaking in front of a large group of people but they all did extremely well and I’m sure made Vicki and Dan proud.
The venue was brilliant for the outside grounds and space. Dan had organised bouncy castles and outside games for the guests and it really went down well with children AND adults having a good old game. I believe the bouncy castles were set up the evening before and of course they had to be tried and tested by Dan himself.
The party atmosphere had really kicked in and with a band playing we were keen to stay longer. Unfortunately we had a bit of a drive onto our hotel and so we gathered our belongings and said our goodbyes to this wonderful couple. We traveled toward our hotel, Woodbury Park and it was gorgeous. If anyone’s in need of a hotel in that direction, you should definitely have a look at this one. The staff were great and it was the icing on the cake for our wedding weekend.
Vicki and Dan were really fun to work with and such a sweet couple. We wish you all the happiness in your new wedded lives together along with your beautiful Isabella. We had a great time, thanks for having us :)
